Child Obesity Treatment - Control Hunger

There are a number of factors that first need to be looked at in order to determine an appropriate course of child obesity treatment and which way to go about to Lose Kg. Unless we actually know how we are defining obesity it is impossible to develop the best child obesity treatment and if we are actually treating the correct thing. What seems to be a good approach to child obesity treatment could actually do more harm than good without this kind of knowledge.

Obese Children

Normally, obesity happens when people consume more than the amount of calories burnt up by the body. More specifically the causes of obesity can be quite complex, ranging from biological, genetic, nutritional, behavioral or cultural factors.

First, a Definition of Obesity

Obesity is often defined as the excessive accumulation of fat in the body, and is prevalent when total body weight is more than 25% fat in boys and 32% in girls. Childhood obesity is usually defined as 120% of the ideal weight-for-height ratio. Needless to say, if obesity is not dealt with it can develop into clinically severe obesity or even morbid obesity which is usually defined as being 100 pounds or more than the ideal body weight and can often lead to serious chronic disease.

Obese kids need child obesity treatment because they are at an increased risk of becoming obese adults, and are more prone to certain illnesses such as hypertension, diabetes, coronary heart disease, low self esteem and more stress on weight-bearing joints.

Basic Child Obesity Treatment

First, child obesity treatment begins with early and appropriate intervention into weight control. The goal of weight loss for children and adolescents is not weight loss, but the aim is to slow down the weight gain so that the child grows into normal body weight over a period of time.

Second, child obesity treatment should have a formal exercise program, which can make the child more active allow for more fat burning, increasing energy expenditure and helping to maintain weight. It is important to be aware that most studies have shown that simply increasing exercise alone cannot help in weight loss unless done in concert with other factors such as change in eating habits or nutrition education.

Third, another related aspect of child obesity treatment is diet management. For children, extreme calorie restriction or fasting is not advisable as this can be psychologically quite stressful. It could also adversely affect the growth of the child and could influence the youngster’s perception of good eating habits. It is necessary to teach a child to have a balanced and nutritious diet with a slight reduction in caloric intake.

Fourth, are behavioral strategies that can be used for child obesity treatment. There are various behavioral strategies that can be used for children that are effectively used by adults to treat obesity. These include record keeping of food eaten and self-monitoring as well as increased physical activity. Slowing down the rate of eating, using incentives and rewards for desirable behavior, and limiting the place and time of eating are effective as well

Obese Children

Beneficial child obesity treatment is a combination of diet management, moderate exercise and behavior modification all of which affect the lifestyle of the child. To benefit a child’s health and well being both in the short term and for life, this kind of child obesity treatment is good for learning valuable life choices.
